In the video above, sailor and school nurse Paula Mueller chats with Phil about her experiences supporting children with epilepsy that attend her school. Working with the family and their physician, Paula helps to develop a personalized seizure action plan for each student and informs their teachers, privately, on what to expect if the child has a seizure in their class. She also trains the staff on seizure first aid so that if a child has a seizure, they can be properly cared for during and after the event.
In the video below, Paula and Phil talk about the important advances that have happened recently for seizure rescue medications. The ability to deliver the medication through a nasal spray, rather than a rectal gel, reduces stress levels for the child with epilepsy, as well as for their families.
