Bermuda Short-Handed Return

163 163 people viewed this event.

The Bermuda Short-Handed Return Race is a post Newport Bermuda Race return to Newport for Single- and Double-Handed Boats. The race hopes to engender a safe return environment for competitors through tracking and the knowledge that other competitors are on the course to provide assistance, if needed. It is also hoped the race will promote greater interest in short-handed sailing, particularly in light of the Olympic interest under discussion.

Phil will be sailing with Sail For Epilepsy Advisor Joe Cooper, who also sailed back to Newport with him during the 2021 Bermuda 1-2. With nicknames of the Sailor and the Professor, this duo has sailed many miles together in multiple races over the years. This will be their first time racing together on Fearless.

Co-skipper Joe Cooper

As with all races, Phil will be sailing for all those affected by epilepsy, their families, and their caregivers. They will bring along over 550 Virtual Shipmates with them and plan to connect by live video while offshore. We’ll post photos and videos of the voyage to social media and our website. Phil will share the highs and lows of sailing to set an example of resilience in the face of adversity and showcase methods of overcoming challenges.

If the timing allows, we may broadcast the return to Newport live on Facebook.
